FONTANA LAKE

Fontana lake is located in the Western counties of Graham and Swain. Its  deep waters  cover many miles of beautiful shoreline of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. Many species of trophy caliber fish may be caught here while taking in the breathtaking views and wildlife in the park. Bald eagles may be regularly seen early in the mornings making for great photo opportunities. This lake and the area, is rich in historical qualities as well. The community and farms were covered by water in the early 1900's with much protest from the residents and some refused to leave their homes that ultimately had to be removed by boat as their memories and lives were covered forever. When the water levels are lowered in the winter you can view some of the remains of these farms. This is one of the best fishing lakes located in North Carolina having Largemouth, smallmouth, walleye, musky, both black and white crappie, perch, and all three popular species of catfish.
